Audrey Wingate, 83, of 38 International St., Glace Bay, passed away Thursday, May 17, 2012, at the Miners Memorial Manor in Sydney Mines.
Born in Glace Bay, she was the daughter of the late Danny and Mary (MacLean) Moffatt.
Audrey or ‘Ma’ as she was referred to around No. 11 was a member of St. Anthony’s Church. She was the last surviving member of her immediate family. Audrey loved to cook and some of her specialities were making fudge and spaghetti and meatballs. Ma will be remembered as a very compassionate and loving lady who deeply cared for her family.
Audrey is survived by four daughters, Wanda (Phonse) Fahey, with whom she resided, Wendy (Stephen) Hines, Avain (John) MacLeod, all in Glace Bay, Betty (Brian), Ontario; five sons, Danny (Judy) Moffatt, Wilfred (Debbie) Wingate, both in Glace Bay, Winston Wingate, Kenny Wingate, both in Ontario, Wendell (Julie) Wingate, Alberta; 25 grandchildren; 11 great-grandchildren and her special friend, Betty Rich in New Waterford.
Audrey was predeceased by her husband, Thomas Jr., son, Wayne, three brothers, Donnie, John, Ralph and two sisters, Gloria, Lydia.
Cremation has taken place. Visitation will be held Monday from 2-3 p.m. in the V.J. McGillivray Funeral Home, 16 Reserve St., Glace Bay, followed by the funeral service at 3 p.m. in the funeral home chapel. Fr. Norman MacPhee officiating.
Memorial donations may be made to St. Anthony's Church in memory of Audrey.
