In Loving Memory of Maida Evelyn Richards (nee: Barker) October 25, 1939 - January 1, 2008 It is with deep sadness that we announce the passing of our beloved mother, grandmother, sister and friend. Maida passed away peacefully at the Lions Gate Hospital in North Vancouver in the early morning hours of January 1, 2008 after a courageous battle with cancer. She is survived by her son Steven Wanless, daughter Karalee Brown (nee Wanless), her two grandsons Sean and Scott Wanless, her two brothers Russell Barker (Rita), Keith Barker (Betty), nieces & nephews, Margaret Locke (Walter), David Barker and Jeffrey Barker (Anita), Sharon Silver (Brian), Cindie Cosentino (Mike) and Todd Barker. Maida was predeceased by her mother Evelyn Barker, her father Horace Barker and her brother Gordon Barker. Maida was born in Kamloops on October 25, 1939 and completed her education in 1957 at Kamloops Secondary School. After her marriage to Robert Wanless, she resided in Temiscaming, Quebec. She returned to Kamloops in 1964 and spent her entire career employed by B.C. Tel in Kamloops and Vancouver. Maida's retirement years were spent with her many friends in North Vancouver enjoying activities including bowling, lawn bowling, dancing, belly dancing and cribbage. Some of her most enjoyable times were spent bowling with North Vancouver Lawn Bowling Club and her volunteering at the Silver Harbour Seniors' Centre helping serve meals and visiting with the seniors. Maida had a zest for living and a tremendous love for family and friends; her smile and laugh touched everyone who knew her. Sincere thanks go to all of her special friends, that visited her frequently at the hospital, the nursing staff at the Lions Gate Hospital, Dr. McCall, and Major Dave Grice of the Salvation Army North Vancouver Community Church for his spiritual support. A service for her family and many friends will be held on January 11, 2008 at 1:00 pm at the Salvation Army Church at 105 West 12th Street in North Vancouver. Reception to follow. The family requests that any expressions of sympathy take the form of tax deductible donations to: The Salvation Army, North Vancouver Community Church, 105 West 12th Street, North Vancouver, BC, V7M 1N2, Phone: 604-988-6040
