It is with heartfelt sadness that we announce the passing of beloved wife and mother, Nora Tobin, at home on May 22, 2012, surrounded by her loving family, guided to her heavenly home with St. Anthony by her side.
Born in Sydney Mines on May 13, 1935, she was the daughter of the late Fred and Marjorie (Strickland) Ford.
She was a devoted wife and mother who will be sadly missed by her family and friends.
She was a devout member of St. Pius X parish and a choir member for many years. Nora was also a member of TOPS.
She is survived by her loving husband of 57 years, Cecil; sons, Paul (Debbie), Nanaimo, B.C., Brennen (Lorna), Halifax, Robert (Vicki), Vancouver, B.C.; daughters, Marie (James Noble), Joan (David Prince), Patricia (Mort MacKinnon) and Monica, all of Sydney Mines. Mom was affectionately known as “Bingo Bag” and will be missed by her 11 grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren. She is also survived by sister, Edith (the late Manny Tobin) and brothers, Henry Ford (Shirley) and Jimmy Ford (Heather).
Mom was predeceased by her daughter, Laura, brothers, Walter, John, George, sisters, Ruby, Agnes and Edna, son-in-law, Blair MacGean.
In keeping with mom’s wishes there will be no visitation. Cremation has taken place under the direction of J.M. Jobes Funeral Home, Sydney Mines.
A mass of celebration will be held on Friday, May 25, 2012, at St. Pius X Church, Main Street, Sydney Mines, at 2 p.m. with Fr. John Mills officiating. Interment at St. Joseph’s Cemetery. Followed by a reception in St. Pius X parish hall.
Memorial donations can be made to St. Joseph’s cemetery fund or a charity of one’s choice.
