Douglas Wilkes
WILKES, DOUGLAS - Douglas Laurence Wilkes, loving husband of Esther (Irvine) Wilkes, of Public Landing, passed away on Tuesday, May 22, 2012 at the Saint John Regional Hospital. Born 1925 in Stephenville, NF he was the only child of the late Ernest and Rose (O`Quinn) Wilkes. Doug worked as a Superintendent/Engineer for the National Harbour Board for many years. He was an avid square dancer, world traveller, enjoyed playing cards, telling jokes, fishing, spending time gardening and wine and beer making. He loved life, loved GOD, loved Mother Mary, loved people and enjoyed spending time with his family and friends. In addition to his loving wife Esther he is survived by his sons Larry Wilkes of Spruce Lake, Peter Wilkes (Joyce) of Martinon, Timothy Wilkes (Dale) of Spruce Lake and Stephen Wilkes of Lepreau; daughter Anne Tufts (Sandy) of Iqaluit; stepson Bobby Duke of Saint John; step children Crystal Smith (Dan) of Shelburne, NS and Nicholas Irvine (Nicole) of Saint John; sister-in-law Pat Long of Hampton; 17 grandchildren and 10 great grandchildren; several cousins, nieces and nephews. Esther's brothers and sisters and their families. Besides his parents, he was predeceased by his first wife Sarah (Duke) Wilkes.
Resting at Fundy Funeral Home, 230 Westmorland Road, Saint John (646-2424) with visitations on Thursday, May 24, 2012 from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated from St. Peter`s Catholic Church on Friday, May 25, 2012 at 11 a.m. Interment will follow in St. Augustine`s Cemetery.
