Christabelle Nicholson, 89, Baddeck, N.S., died Dec. 27, 2009, at Alderwood Rest Home, Baddeck, N.S.
Born in Great Eccleston Preston, Lancashire England, Oct. 14, 1920, she was the daughter of the late Thomas and M.E. (Jolly). She was a member of the Greenwood United Church, Baddeck, and also a member of the UCW, church choir, Royal Canadian Legion Branch 53, Baddeck, and a member of the Order of the Eastern Star.
She served in the Second World War as a nursing orderly with the British Military, which is where she met her husband Charles Mackay Nicholson and so became a British war bride. After coming to Baddeck, Christabelle worked for Maritime Tel&Tel as an agent at the Baddeck office. She also worked at the Silver Dart Motel for many years before running her own Cape Breton Bed & Breakfast with her husband.
She is survived by sons, Charles Graham, Baddeck, and Michael M. (Audrey); grandchildren, Christopher Michael Nicholson, Corner Brook, N.L., and Andrew G. Bain, Sydney.
She was predeceased by her husband, Charles Mackay Nicholson and daughter, Ann G. Bain.
There will be an Eastern Star Service at 2 p.m. Thursday, Dec. 31 at Greenwood United Church followed by the funeral service with Rev. Karen Lynch officiating. Burial in Greenwood United Church Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers donations may be made to Victoria County Memorial Hospital or the Alderwood Rest Home Baddeck.
The family would like to thank all the doctors and nurses at the Victoria County Memorial Hospital, also all the staff of the Alderwood Rest Home, for the comfort and care that they gave our mother.
