William Edwin Tattrie Sr., 87, of 61 Kennedy Ave., Sydney, passed away Dec. 27, 2009, at the Cape Breton Regional Hospital, An Cala Unit.
He was the eldest son of the late Manley S. and C. Blanche (Caswell) Tattrie.
During the Second World War he served more than five years in the Canadian Army, Royal Canadian Corps of Signals, including service in England and North Western Europe. He was discharged in December 1945.
He was employed 41 years with Nova Scotia Power. He retired in 1987 as electrical inspector.
He is survived by three sons, Robert (June), Kitchener, William Jr. (Brenda), Sydney, Walter (Wendy), Lower Sackville; four daughters, Dale (Frank) Morrison, Ottawa, Dianne (Wally) Morrison, Big Pond, Patricia, at home, and Linda (Allan) Smith, Sydney. Also surviving are 13 grandchildren and 15 great-grandchildren. He is also survived by a brother, Raymond and a sister, Margaret Holec, both of North Sydney.
He was predeceased by his wife of 52 years, Beatrice (Ferguson) in 1994, and by a brother, Walter in 2007.
There will be no visitation. Cremation has taken place. Burial in Hardwood Hill Cemetery will take place at a later date.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Cape Breton Metro VON or a charity of choice.
