Serenaded by his favourite Christmas carols, Earl Ross MacRitchie, 87, of Sydney, passed away peacefully at his home on Christmas Eve, with his loving family by his side to escort him to heaven.
Earl was an adherent of the Presbyterian Church. He served overseas with the Royal Canadian Army 19th Field Artillery Regiment for three years. Following the war, he was active in sales for a number of years and was also active in the Royal Canadian Legion, Branch 12, Sydney, as a life member. Dad’s sense of humour was only outshone by his good-hearted nature. Throughout his life, he battled obstacles with true courage.
He is survived by his daughters, Beverley (Richard) Smith, Oro, Ontario, Joan Melnick, Sydney; two sons, John, Barrie, Ontario, Gregory (Carrie), Sydney; a sister, Vivien, Sydney; his six grandchildren, Colin, Paige, Marea, Michael, Brendan, Camden; and by son-in-law, Steve.
He was predeceased by his brother, Jack.
There will be no visitation for the late Mr. MacRitchie. A funeral service will take place at 11 a.m. Thursday, Dec. 31, 2009, at T.W. Curry Parkview Chapel with Rev. Stephen Mills officiating with interment in Forest Haven Memorial Gardens, Sydney.
Donations may be made to the C.B. Palliative Care Society, Canadian Cancer Society or the Whitney Pier Youth Club.
