AMIRAULT- Mardi (Marjorie Alice Adams) – 65, it is with deep sadness that the family of Mardi Amirault of Yarmouth announce her peaceful passing on May 25th, 2012. She was lovingly surrounded by family and close friends at home. Born August 12, 1946 to the late Ken and Marjorie Adams, she was the last surviving member of her immediate family. She had one older brother, Charlie Adams who passed away in 2004. Mardi was an extraordinary cook who also loved cats, music and dancing, gardening, canoeing and evening camp fires with friends at Island Pond. She graduated in 1968 from the Yarmouth School of Nursing as a Registered Nurse and later came to play an influential role in the evolution of the school and the field of nursing education in South West Nova; first as a nursing instructor and later, as the Director of the Dalhousie School of Nursing, Yarmouth Site. She had a deep interest in the history of nursing in Yarmouth which came to be the focus of her Master’s work and creative pursuits alike. Mardi was awarded the College of Registered Nurses of Nova Scotia Centennial Award of Distinction in 2010. She most recently published A Centennial Celebration of Yarmouth Nurses, a collection of poems, verse and prose that speak to the essence of nursing and nursing education in Yarmouth from 1912 to present day. Mardi’s greatest love was for her immediate and extended family, as well as the clusters of close friends, classmates, colleagues and students she surrounded herself with throughout her life. She is survived by her husband of 43 years, Norman Amirault, their two daughters Marni Amirault (Stephen Parks), Halifax and Kristin Amirault (Patrick Saulnier), New Minas and grandson (Owen Saulnier). The family wishes to thank the VON staff who directed our care for her at home, but most especially, to Heather D’entremont, Sheila Adams and Janet Kirk (Yarmouth School of Nursing’s Class of ’68) for their support, devotion and tender, loving care. Funeral arrangements have been entrusted to Sweeny’s Funeral Home & Crematorium, Yarmouth. Visitation was held Monday, May 28 from 7-9 p.m from Beacon United Church. A Funeral service was held Tuesday May 29 at 2 p.m at Beacon United Church, Rev. A.D. “Bill" Newell and Father John MacPherson officiated. Interment will follow at a later date. Donations in Mardi’s memory may be made to The Victorian Order of Nurses (VON) the Red Cross and the Yarmouth Hospital Oncology Unit. Family flowers only.
