Gunn: (Ferguson) Jean Christine, 92, Falmouth, (formerly of 17 Miller Road), Truro, passed away on Tuesday, May 29, 2012 after a short stay at the Windsor Elms Village, Falmouth, NS. Born at Balmoral Mills, she was a daughter of the late Elizabeth (Matheson) and George H. Ferguson. She grew up on the family farms at Balmoral Mills and Brule Point. After graduating from the Provincial Normal College, Truro in 1940 she taught in East Branch, Nuttby, Camden and Salmon River. Jean was an active member of Brunswick Street United Church. She taught Sunday School, held various offices in the Maple Grove Unit and was proud to be a life member of the U.C.W. She was a Red Cross volunteer for many years and canvassed for various charitable organizations. She enjoyed music and was a member of the Jolly 60’s club and the Cobequid Twirlers square dance club for 20 years. Jean was an excellent cook and homemaker. Her hobbies included knitting, crocheting, quilting, needle work, sewing, reading, bowling, playing various board games, cribbage, canasta and 45’s. Jean is survived by son John (Lynn), Truro, daughter Karen (Peter) Rowlands, Falmouth, grandchildren, David (Karen) Gunn, Saint John, NB; Andrea (Mark) Bishop, Saint John, NB; Wendy (Scott) Radford, Calgary, Alberta; Nancy Forbes, Falmouth; great-grandchildren, Tyler and Joshua Gunn, Saint John, NB; Chloe Bishop, Saint John NB; Sydney and Julia Radford, Calgary, Alberta; sisters, Michelle Roads, San Francisco, USA and Helen (Lou) Underwood, Embrun, ON; She was predeceased by her parents; husband Murray (2007); brothers, Allister and Livingstone Ferguson and sister, Anne MacCara. Visitation will be held on Friday, June 1, from 2-4 and 7-9pm at the Mattatall ~ Varner Funeral Home, 55 Young Street, Truro. Funeral service will be held 2pm Saturday, June 2, in the Brunswick Street United Church, 250 Brunswick Street, Truro NS, B2N 2J3, Rev. David Lutes officiating with a reception to follow the service in the church hall. Interment will then be held in the Earltown Village Cemetery. Family flowers only please.
