Lana Lynn Adele Dufour was born November 18th, 1965 to Lorraine Dufour (nee Charlebois) and Philip Dufour of Spiritwood. She grew up there until she graduated in June of 1983. Childhood memories include many trips with the family, sports teams, summer church and sport camps, sheep farm, hauling bales with the old tractor and trying to find 2nd gear in the grain truck, and many, many, many family gatherings. Lana moved to Saskatoon in September 1983 to attend the U of S while taking classes in the College of Commerce. She then moved to Moose Jaw the following academic year and Graduated with a Diploma in Accounting in December 1985 from SIAST Palliser Campus. She moved to Prince Albert and worked as the Payroll Officer for SIAST Woodland Campus until she quit to get married the fall of 1990. She married Gerry Karasiuk of Domremy (Northern Light) on October 20, 1990 in Prince Albert, Sask. After 1 ½ years Lana took a full time job at the school in St. Louis until she quit when she was pregnant with her first daughter (Becki born June 1993). Lana stayed at home and raised her two daughters (Jodi born January 1996) until she started working part-time at the Village of Domremy in December 1999. She also accepted part-time jobs as the Domremy Church Treasurer, and then the Domremy Church Secretary. Lana quit the Village in December 2002 and then accepted a part time job at a National Native organization on Muskoday reserve in February 2003. Lana worked for the church until November 2004 when she accepted a full time position as the Finance Officer for Muskoday First Nation. She worked there until June 2008 until she accepted a job as a Funding Services Officer for Indian and Northern Affairs of the Federal Government. She worked there until her passing. Lana’s absolute loves were her two daughters, travelling with her two daughters, sports with her two daughters, her family, Domremy Beach and the lake family, the Saskatchewan Roughriders and crocheting. Lana’s only claims to fame were that she stood on twin towers with her sister Sandy and Aunty Laurence in August 1989, and she won a single ticket to the Saskatchewan Roughriders Grey Cup in Toronto in 1989. The Mass of Christian Burial will be held at the St. Joan of Arc Roman Catholic Church in Domremy, on Saturday, June 2, 2012 at 10:00 a.m. with Rev. Fr. Greg Elder as celebrant. Interment of the Urn will take place at a later date. Donations in memory of Lana may be directed to the Saskatoon Cancer Center Research Fund or to the Canadian Down Syndrome Society.
