It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of a loving husband, brother, father and grandfather at his home in Trepassey surrounded by his family. Jack passed away on Sunday, December 27, 2009, following a brief but courageous battle with cancer. Predeceased by his parents John and Mary, his sister Peggy, brothers: Nick and Georgie and father-in-law Fred Fitzgerald. Jack leaves to mourn his best friend and wife of 38 years Patsy, his sister Marie (Joe), his children: Jackie (Cordell), Nichole, Jodine (Scott), and Justin (Krista); his pride and joy, his grandchildren: Justina, Brianna, Haily, Brody, Evan, Sarah and Lucy; his mother-in-law Bride Fitzgerald, brother-in-law Dennis (Louise), sisters-in-law: Roma (Roy), Geraldine (Don) and all his nieces and nephews, especially his buddy Jason. Jack's humour and gentle nature will be forever missed by his lifelong friends, hunting buddies and crew members on boats throughout the years. Jack was a long time fishing captain with Fishery Products International and later with Miller Shipping. He spent 12 years as a tug boat captain of Placentia Pride with Canship as well as being a member of the Canadian Coast Guard Auxillary and Trepassey Fire Brigade. The family would like to thank everyone for their amazing support during this difficult time, especially the friends who visited Jack at home and in the hospital and stayed with him through the nights. Cremation has taken place and Jack's remains will leave Caul's for his journey to Trepassey at 10 a.m. on Wednesday, December 30. Anyone wishing to meet the family can do so at 12 p.m. at the Loran Site. Church service will be held at Holy Redeemer Church, Trepassey at 1 p.m. followed by a social and memorial at the Church Auditorium.
