Julie Burke

BURKE (AMOS), JULIE L. - Julie Burke, 38, of Dartmouth passed away peacefully surrounded by her family after a courageous battle with breast cancer on June 01, 2012. Julie was born on June 16, 1973 in Saint John, NB - the beautiful and talented daughter of Don and Elsie Amos. Julie graduated from Cole Harbour High School in 1991 and went on to study at Ryerson Polytechnic in Toronto. She started her career in the hospitality & tourism industry, moved onto the airline industry before most recently taking a position with the Canadian Air Transport Security Authority at the Halifax Airport. Julie was an incredible woman with a great sense of humour, a contagious smile and a sharp wit. She leaves behind countless friends who will always remember her fondly and the wonderful times they shared. She always enjoyed the private jokes and laughs she shared with her older brother Andrew. From walking her to the school bus as a young girl to joining her for every major medical appointment during her fight with cancer - Julie was always appreciative of her big brother's love, support and comfort. Julie was married to Christopher Burke of St. Peter's in 2009 and they were enjoying a wonderful life together - though they only had a short time together, it was filled with love. Julie's greatest joy and gift to all of us left behind is her wonderful 16 month old son, Jack Amos Burke. She always dreamed of starting a family and Jack was the answer to her prayers. A special piece of Julie will always live on in Jack. Julie wanted to express her love and gratitude to her parents who cared for her right up to the end. She was more than a daughter to Don & Elsie - she was their best friend. She leaves behind a huge void in their heart. Julie wished to thank them for giving her the perfect childhood and upbringing - filled with love and laughs. She is also survived and missed by two wonderful sisters-in-law (Wanda and Raylene), numerous aunts, uncles, cousins, niece Lisa and nephew Logan as well as her maternal grandmother. Julie touched each of their lives in unique and special ways and no family get together will ever be the same without her.
Funeral services will take place at Dartmouth Memorial Gardens & Atlantic Funeral Home on Main Street in Dartmouth at 2pm Thursday, June 7th. Visitation will take place on Wednesday from 2pm to 4pm and from 7pm to 9pm.
