It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Mary Evangeline Gouthro, age 98, formerly of Glace Bay. Mary passed away peacefully with family at her side at the Halifax Infirmary on Sunday, June 3, 2012.
Mary was the daughter of the late Gilbert and Catherine Sampson of French Cove, Richmond County, N.S. Mary was a long-time resident of Reserve Street, Glace Bay, St. Nicholas Seniors Residence, St. Peter's and most recently, Cole Harbour, N.S.
Mary is survived by her son, John Gouthro, wife, Cheryl and her granddaughter, Leanne, with whom she resided. She is also survived by five grandchildren, seven great-grandchildren and one great-great-grandchild.
Besides her parents, she was predeceased by her husband, John James Gouthro; son, Ivan and daughter, Brenda (Saulnier); sisters, Amelia, Agnes, Matilda, Gladys; brothers, Gus, Wilfred and Vincent.
Visitation for Mary Gouthro will be held 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. on Wednesday, June 6, 2012 in V.J. McGillivray Funeral Home, 16 Reserve St., Glace Bay. A funeral mass will be celebrated 10 a.m. on Thursday, June 7 at St. Anne's Catholic Church, Main Street, Glace Bay with Fr. Leo Boone officiating. Interment will be in the parish cemetery. A luncheon will follow in the church foyer.
