Suddenly but peacefully on Tuesday, June 5, 2012, of Ida Mary Handrahan of the Tignish Seniors Co-op Home, age 88 years. Beloved wife of the late James William Handrahan who predeceased her in 2004. Born at Tignish on Sept. 19, 1923, she was the daughter of the late Joseph and Ellen (nee Fennessey) Richard. Lovingly remembered by her children: Linda (Roger) Richard of Tignish; Roy (Karen) of Pleasant View; William (Judy) of Calgary, Alta.; and Robert (Julie) of Cold Lake, Alta. Cherished grandmother to Glenda Hutchinson, Shelley Richard, Melanie Pitre, Jason Handrahan, Glen Handrahan, Sarah Michaud, Katie Handrahan. She is also survived by her seven great-grandchildren. Dear sister to Louise (Alyre) LeClair of Tignish. Sister-in-law to Marguerite (late Walter) Gavin of Tignish; Frances (Brad) LeClair of Ascension; Doreen (Frank) Tucker of St. Catherines, Ont.; Chester (Lena) Handrahan of Tignish; Leonard (Doreen) Handrahan of Tignish; and Inez (late Hubert) Handrahan of Tignish. She was predeceased by her son Dennis and by her daughter-in-law Donna as well as her siblings, Raymond (late Rita) Richard, Everett (late Sis) Richard, Stella (late Gerard) Gaudet, Lena (late Sylvester) Arsenault; Doris (late Eddie) Cuffey; and Irene (late Hector) Gallant. Resting at the Rooney Funeral Home, Alberton. Visiting hours Friday evening from 7 to 9 and on Saturday from 1 p.m. until time of funeral. Funeral on Saturday afternoon from St. Simon and St. Jude Church, Tignish, for funeral mass at 3 p.m., Rev. Brendon Gallant, celebrant. Interment in the church cemetery. If so desired memorials to St. Simon and St. Jude Cemetery Fund or to the Tignish Seniors Co-op Home would be gratefully appreciated. The Tignish Council of the CWL will hold a prayer vigil Friday evening at 6:45.
