Elizabeth Emms Elizabeth (Betty) Emms, nee Latowski, dear mother, grandmother and friend, passed away peacefully at 1:40 A.M. on February 26th, 2008 at the Royal Inland Hospital. A major stroke suffered three weeks previously had required her hospitalization, where she fought bravely to regain her health with the help of family and friends. She is predeceased by her husband George Albert Emms in April 1997, also latterly of Kamloops. She is survived by her son Grant Emms and her daughter-in-law Judy, currently living in London, England, and her grandchildren Kelsey and Kevin. She will be greatly missed by her family, extended family and her many friends in Kamloops and elsewhere. Betty was born in Wakaw, Saskatchewan on March 11th, 1920 where she was raised by her uncle and aunt Maximchuk. She went on to become a school teacher in Saskatchewan. After she married George in 1950, she moved to Toronto, then on to Montreal in 1956. In Montreal, she had a successful career as a real estate agent. George and Betty moved to Kamloops in 1980. She made many friends in the city and was renowned for her energy, joy of life and magnanimous heart. She enjoyed life in the city to the fullest: a symphony regular, a lawn-bowler, bridge club enthusiast, keen baseball fan, avid reader and library user, Thrift Seller volunteer, volunteer to the Afternoon Auxiliary to Royal Inland Hospital and a long-standing volunteer canvasser for the Heart & Stroke Foundation. Betty was an avid traveler venturing with her family as far afield as Egypt and Kenya. She made numerous trips to England and most recently visited her family in London for Christmas. A Celebration of her Life will be held on Thursday, March 6th, 2008, at 2:00 P.M., at Kamloops Funeral Home, 285 Fortune Drive, Kamloops, BC, (ph: 554-2577) with a reception to follow.
