With the deepest sorrow we regret to announce the sudden passing of our son, Ryan Joseph on Dec. 26, 2009, while residing in Edmonton, Alta.
Ryan was born in Sydney, N.S., January 1987.
He attended Sydney Academy and graduated from the Adult Training Centre in 2008. Ryan was an avid sports fan and an athletic youth who possessed a keen interest in baseball, basketball, golf and hockey to name just a few. He was also an excellent billiards player, ready in a moment for a good match with his numerous friends. All who knew Ryan or met him for the first time will fondly remember his warm beautiful smile and kind and friendly presence. Ryan had a terrific circle of family and friends and he very much enjoyed their company.
Prior to leaving for Alberta, Ryan was briefly employed with Delta Sydney.
Ryan is survived by his parents, Mark and Rita (Wadden) Ongo; sister, Ashley, Sydney, and younger brother, Michael, at home; two cherished nieces, (goddaughter) Emily and Lilia Ongo, who he loved so much. Ryan is also survived by his paternal grandmother, Katherine Ongo and step grandfather, Ed Blanchard, maternal grandparents, Gervais (Roberta) Wadden and his precious grandmother and best friend, Claire Wadden, all from Sydney.
Ryan’s large extended surviving family include paternal uncles, Joseph (Tevis), Shane (Kim), Gerard (Will) Ongo and aunts, Bonnie (Terrance) Smith and Sylvia (John David) Fitzgerald; maternal uncles, Bobby (Carol), godfather, Donnie (Donna), Aubrey (Charlotte), George (Trish) Wadden; maternal aunts, Geraldine (Bernie) Bresson and Bernadette (Doug) Burke; a large family of cousins also survive Ryan and all will miss him greatly.
Ryan was sadly predeceased by his paternal grandfather, Donald George and uncle, Wayne Ongo.
Visitation will be held at the S.W. Chant & Son Funeral Home, 564 Alexandra St., Sydney, Friday, Jan. 1, 2010, from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. Funeral mass will be held 10 a.m., Saturday, Jan. 2, 2010, at St. Theresa Church, Whitney Avenue, with Fr. James Oliver officiating. Reception at the parish centre to follow.
