It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Richard Alexander (Alex) Minifie on Dec. 29, 2009.
Alex was born April 19, 1942, in Peterborough, Ont., and was predeceased by his mother, Jeanne De Maio, for whom he had a great love.
Alex leaves behind to mourn and miss him, his loving wife, Sarah; and his four sons, Sean (Carol Ann), Joe (Kirsten), Fr. Mike and Greg (Andrea). Alex will also be missed by his only ‘daughter’, Melissa (Davey) and his stepson, Tyler (Patricia). He will be missed by his grandsons, Joel, Caleb, Zachery, Alexander; step-grandsons, Jonah and Nigel; step-granddaughter, Skye. He is survived by sister Jeannette (Doug) Bullick and brother Bob Minifie. Alex is survived by the mother of his four sons, Noreen Byrne.
Alex enjoyed his years as a pilot, tech rep for DeHavilland and as an aircraft maintenance engineer at the Ministry of Transport. Alex was forever proud to have belonged to the Royal Canadian Navy.
Alex, like his grandfather, found great pleasure in his hobby, model trains. He was an avid reader and talked to anyone who had a listening ear.
To the very end, Alex fought a courageous battle with ALS. He was lovingly and tenderly cared for at home by his loving wife, Sarah, daughter, Melissa, best friend, Davey and nephew, Jason.
Alex’s deep faith in the Lord sustained him during his illness. He loved to travel and had a story to tell about everywhere he visited. Alex said in his last days, “I have fought the good fight, I have finished the race, and I have kept the faith ... Miss me but let me go.â€
