MELANSON, (MARY) LEONA - 1908 - 2012 - "Mary" Leona Melanson formerly of Sackville, NB passed away peacefully at Mount St. Joseph Senior Home, Miramichi on Thursday, June 14, 2012 at the age of 103. Born in Moncton, she was a daughter of the late Olive and Frances (Boucher) Richard. Leona was a member of the Holy Rosary Roman Catholic Church and St. Vincent Roman Catholic Church of Sackville. She had been an active member of the Catholic Women's League. She will be sadly missed by her daughter, Paula Melanson, Ladysmith, BC; five sons, Alyre, Montreal, Larry, Winnipeg, Art (Jenny) Cambridge, ON, Allen (Donna), Kingston, ON and Donnie (Theresa), Miramichi; eighteen grandchildren, thirty-eight great grandchildren and five great great grandchildren. Besides her parents, Leona was predeceased by her husband, Ernest; daughters, Yvonne and Janet and three sons, Raymond, Norman, and Albert; two sisters, and three brothers.
Leona's arrangements are under the care and supervision of Jones Funeral Home, 70 Bridge Street, Sackville (506-364-1300) from where visitation will be held from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 pm on Sunday, June 17, 2012. A funeral service will be held at St. Vincent Roman Catholic Church, Sackville on Monday, June 18 at 11 am. Burial to follow in the parish cemetery. Donations in Leona's memory may be made to the Heart and Stroke Foundation.
