MARY BLAKE August 10th, 1911 - April 6th, 2008 Mary Blake passed away at Royal Inland Hospital on the morning of April 6th, 2008 at 96 years of age. She is survived by her daughter Muriel Turner of Port Angeles, Washington, and her three grandchildren Danielle Turner of Kyoto, Japan, Chad Turner of Victoria and Nova Tuner of Alberta, three great grandchildren Hailey, Shelby and Brooklyn Turner, four nephews, Vern McDonald, Gary, Carmen and Kenny Candido, two nieces Pauline Corbett and Margie Gallo as well as numerous other relatives. She was predeceased by her first husband Reginald Bud Turner (d. 1971) and her second husband William Blake (d. 1987), her son Donald Turner and her two sisters Francis Candido and Sarafina Gallo. Mary was born in Seattle, Washington but was raised in British Columbia. In her early adult years, she was heavily involved with helping her parents run a farm, restaurant and several other businesses in Merritt. Mary was always active in the community. She was a life member and past worthy matron of the Eastern Star Chapter #14 in Merritt. She was also a life member of the ladies auxiliary to the Nicola General Hospital in Merritt. In Kamloops she was a charter member of the Vesta Club #13 (Daughters of the Nile) that was constituted on February 2, 1972. Furthermore, she was a member of the ladies auxiliary to the Kamloops Shrine Club. Mary had several hobbies. She loved to garden and always had beautiful gladiolas. She was also an avid card player and she enjoyed vacationing in Vegas and Reno. Mary was well known for her excellent cooking and her great ability to socialize. She enjoyed people and loved to throw parties with her delicious spaghetti and other Italian dishes as the centerpiece. She was famous within the family for her baked goods, especially lemon meringue pie. Determination and a zest for life allowed Mary to live independently even in her nineties. Her classy good looks and her great sense of style will be fondly remembered by her family and friends. At Mary's request, no service or memorial will be held. She will be laid to rest at Pine Ridge Cemetery in Merritt. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Canadian Cancer Society or a charity of your choice.
