Ruth Ann Byrne, age 76 of Denver St. and formerly of 1-B Road, Glace Bay, passed away on Thursday, Dec. 31, 2009 at the Glace Bay Health Care Complex.
Born in St. Andrew’s, Newfoundland, Ruth was the daughter of the late Alexander and Kathleen (Lawrence) McIsaac.
Ruth was a member of St. John’s Church, Glace Bay. She graduated from St. Joseph’s School of Nursing as an R.N. and was employed at St. Joseph’s Hospital, Glace Bay. Ruth was also a member of the St. Vincent DePaul Society.
She is survived by her husband, Leo Byrne; three daughters, Leone (Craig) Whitfield, Alberta, Ruth Ann (Gordon) Power, Halifax, Marilyn (Michael) Young, Glace Bay; four sons, David, Glace Bay, Phillip (Mary Ann), Bermuda, Gerard (Dorothy) and James, both in Halifax.
Ruth is also survived by two sisters, Nora Anderson, Mary (Ronald) Romken; eleven grandchildren; three great grandchildren; several nieces and nephews.
Ruth was predeceased by four brothers, Jerry ,Jack, Wilfred, Archie; six sisters, Frances McKenzie, Veronica Hall, Murial Paddington, Rose Corkum, Joan and Maude in childhood.
Cremation has taken place. Visitation will be held on Sunday from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. in the V.J. McGillivray Funeral Home,16 Reserve St., Glace Bay. The funeral mass, officiated by Rev. Leo Boone is Monday morning at 10 a.m. in St. Johns Church, Glace Bay followed by interment in Forest Haven Memorial Gardens.
All are welcome to join the family for a reception in the parish hall. As an expression of sympathy for Ruth, donations in her memory may be made to the Society of St. Vincent DePaul, St. Johns Chapter.
