It is with great sorrow that we, the family, announce the sudden death of Sandra Hogan, after only being diagnosed with cancer six weeks ago. Sandra, who was a resident of Eighth Street, passed away Tuesday, June 19, 2012, at the New Waterford Consolidated Hospital.
Born in New Waterford, she was the daughter of the late Charles Arthur and Gladys Christina (Duguid) Radtke.
Sandra was a member of Calvin United Church.
She was a devout wife, mother and grandmother. Her family was her life. Sandra enjoyed plastic canvas, crocheting, playing cards, computer pogo and other computer games.
She had a great sense of humour and was very compassionate and caring. Sandra enjoyed spending time with her grandchildren. Christmas was an important time of year for the Hogan family and it is illustrated through their decorating.
Sandra is survived by her husband, Gabriel Alexander ‘Gabe’ Hogan; three daughters, Beverly Sabourin (Roddie), Tanya MacLeod (Curtis), Sandra Lee Thorne (Baxter) and one son, Trevor Hogan (Deanna), all in New Waterford. Sandra is also survived by three brothers, Charles Radtke (Keri), B.C., Ernest Radtke (Donna), Sydney, Sheldon Radtke (Linda), B.C.; two sisters, Brenda McIntyre (John), Sydney, Rev. Joan Griffin (Michael), Musquodoboit; seven grandchildren, Joanne, Christina, Candice, Kelsie, Dylan, Joshua, Hunter; several nieces and nephews; and her two little buddies, Hoser and Cooper.
Sandra was predeceased by a sister, Alice Marie Radtke in infancy, mother-in-law, Margaret Hogan, father-in-law, James Hogan and a nephew, Glen Radtke.
Visitation will be held today (Thursday) from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. in the V.J. McGillivray Funeral Home, 380 Smith St., New Waterford. The funeral service will be held Friday at 2 p.m. in Calvin United Church with Rev. Duncan Roach and Rev. Joan (Radtke) Griffin officiating. Interment will be at Union Grove Cemetery. All are invited to join the family for a reception in Calvin Hall.
As an expression of sympathy for Sandra, memorial donations in her memory may be made to Cancer Patient Care Fund, Cape Breton Regional Hospital or Calvin United Church. Sandra will be taken to the church at noontime on Friday.
