James (Jim) Alfred Baker January 22, 1921 ~ April 7, 2008 Jim passed away peacefully, after a long battle with cancer, in the Nicola Valley Health Centre. He leaves to mourn his passing, his wife Vi, his step-daughters, Clara (Harold), Penny (Lloyd) and Barbara (Sam), son, Allan (Nancy), fifteen grandchildren and twenty great grandchildren. Jim was raised in the Loon Lake area where he ranched on the family farm for over 60 years. He and Vi moved to the Nicola Valley in November, 1986 where they lived for 20 years on a small farm. Jim moved to the town of Merritt two years ago after farming became too much for him. While living in the Loon Lake area, Jim received the Governor's Medal of Valor for saving a man's life that was being attacked by a cougar. Jim was an avid reader, especially about the history about the areas of Ashcroft, Clinton and the Cariboo. He enjoyed reading books about the history of the world. He wasn't a well-traveled man, but he could tell you anything you wanted to know about different locations all over the world. He always had stories to tell when you were visiting. Jim really enjoyed himself when the family was visiting and had large get-togethers at their home. Even in his final days he had asked if his little great granddaughters had come. Family was very important to Jim. In Jim's honour, he had requested no service. Donations in Jim's name can be made to the Transition Unit at the Nicola Valley Health Centre.
