WILLIAM (Bill) BEDWELL January 31, 1913 - April 17, 2008 Bill Bedwell passed away peacefully during the night at Royal Inland Hospital after a short illness. Bill was 95 years of age. He will be sadly missed by his loving wife of 60 years, Iola; stepson Paul of Fort Simpson, NWT; daughters Heather (Brian Olson) of Whitehorse, YT and Sherry (George Steiger) of Kamloops; seven grandchildren: John, Brad, Bunny, Jody, David, Mike and Rick and their families; his sisters Doris and Mary and brother Jim, as well as many nephews, nieces and friends. Bill was predeceased by his stepson, Johnny, as well as three brothers and three sisters. Bill was born on a farm near Marchwell, Saskatchewan where he lived until joining the Royal Canadian Air Force in 1940. There he became an aviation engineer for Squadron No. 5 and in recognition of his service he was awarded the Distinguished Flying Cross. In 1947, while working in Prince Edward Island, Bill met and married Iola, a widow with two young sons, John and Paul. They had two daughters, Heather and Sherry, and moved a total of 23 times across Canada, from PEI to Whitehorse. Bill continued his career as aircraft engineer until 1973 when they returned to PEI to care for Iola's mother. While there, he worked as a repairman and was in such demand that in 1989 they moved to Kamloops in order to retire. Bill and Iola, were two of the first people to move into Desert Gardens when it was built in 1997. Bill loved his life there, and everyone who knew him enjoyed his quiet manner and great sense of humour. There will be no formal service, but a celebration of Bill's life will be held at Desert Gardens as soon as arrangements can be made.
