It is with heavy hearts that we, the family, announce the passing of our loving mother, grandmother, great grandmother, sister and friend, Geraldine ‘Jerry’ McPhee, on June 21, 2012, at Cape Breton Regional Hospital, Sydney.
Born in Glace Bay, she was a daughter of the later John ‘Jack’ and Catherine (Walsh) Winstanley.
In earlier years, Jerry was employed with Mick’s Taxi and was the first female taxi driver in Glace Bay. She was an avid sports fan and thoroughly enjoyed her evening card games with friends at the Kennedy Drive Complex.
Jerry’s family was the center of her life, especially her grandchildren and great-grandchildren, who were her pride and joy.
She is survived by sons, Richard, Edmonton, Alta., Barry, Glace Bay; brother, John (Susan), P.E.I.; sisters, Betty (Tony) Pastuck, Anna McAulay, Camilla (Leo) Fraser, all of Glace Bay; grandchildren, Richard, Darren, Vanessa, Cathy, Matthew, Garrett; great-grandchildren, Aiden, Aliyeah; several nieces and nephews.
Besides her parents, Jerry was predeceased by husband Murray; brother, Wayne; sister, Marg McGillivray.
Cremation has taken place under the direction of the V. J. McGillivray Funeral Home, 16 Reserve St., Glace Bay. In honouring Jerry’s wishes, there will be no visitation. A funeral mass will be held at a later date.
Memorial donations may be made in Jerry’s name to the MS Society of Canada, Cape Breton Chapter.
