Robert Rankin

Robert George Rankin, 58, of Pictou Island passed away June 21, 2012 in the Aberdeen Hospital, New Glasgow.
Born in Pictou and raised on Pictou Island, Robert was a son of the late Ernest and Janet (MacDonald) Rankin.
As a young man, he served in the Army for five years with the Princess Patricia’s Canadian Light Infantry. Robert and his brother, Elwood fished lobster, herring, scallops and mackerel together for 30 years. He also worked out west for a couple of years, but always returned home to what Robert loved most, Pictou Island, fishing, and his garden.
He is survived by his brother, Elwood (Joan), Meadowville; nephew, Bobby (Kyla), Eastern Passage; great-niece, Kennedy; special aunt, Lorraine MacMillan, Pictou Island; and aunt, Ida Munroe, Pictou; many nieces, nephews, and cousins.
Visitation will be held 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. Sunday in McLaren Funeral Home, Pictou. Funeral service will take place 3 p.m. Monday from St. Andrew’s Presbyterian Church, Pictou, with Rev. Steve Webb officiating. Burial will be at a later date on Pictou Island.
