STEWART, John Franklin “Frank” - 86, of Pictou, passed away June 30, 2012 in the Northumberland Veterans Unit, Pictou with his wife by his side. Born in New Glasgow, Frank was a son of the late David and Margaret (Ferguson) Stewart. He served overseas in WW 2 as an electrician and spent most of his time in Germany during and after the war. His passion was flying. Frank was also an inventor, enjoyed being a HAM radio operator (VE 1 LM), and was employed by Northumberland Ferries Ltd. for 25 years. Surviving are his wife, Mildred (Belleville); sons, Tom (Alice); Paul; Gordon (Lisa Berry); daughter, Debbie (Randy) VanVeen; grandchildren, Joshua, Kaleb, Trevor (Cindy), Adam, Carla (David), Robin (Jeff) and Allison; great-grandchildren, Jamie, Nickolas and Jack; brother, Lloyd (Myrna) Stewart and special friend and roommate, Burt. Besides his parents, Frank was predeceased by his brothers, Eddie, infant Ralph and a daughter-in-law, Diane. Visitation will take place 7-9 PM Tuesday in McLaren Funeral Home, Pictou. Funeral Service will be held 11:00 AM Wednesday from First Presbyterian Church, Pictou, with Rev. Iona MacLean officiating, Burial will follow in Seaview Cemetery. Family flowers only please. Donations in his memory may be made to Northumberland Veterans Unit, Pictou.
