
William 'Kyle' Johnston

It is with profound sadness that we announce the sudden passing of our precious son Kyle on Wednesday, July 4, 2012.
Kyle was a 2006 graduate of Glace Bay High having achieved highest honours in grades 10, 11 and 12. Kyle entered CBU on a scholarship in the Engineering Program and, after two years, he attended Dalhousie University, receiving a Materials Engineering Degree in 2011.
During his years in university, Kyle was employed as an instructor and life guard with the Nova Scotia Life Saving Society, as well as with the Kiwanis Pool in Sydney. Kyle’s work term saw him employed with Ammonite Corrosion of Calgary, Alta. and upon graduation he was employed as Aquatics Director with the Town of Fort Smith, NWT. Most recently, Kyle accepted a position with E.&I. Stantec of Halifax.
Kyle enjoyed the outdoors and in his youth was a member of Scouts Canada achieving his Chief Scout Award in 2001. An avid sports person, Kyle participated in hockey, soccer, high school rugby and golf which was his passion. Kyle was a member of the Passchendaele Golf Club in Glace Bay and he always enjoyed a game of poker with the boys.
Kyle was a member of St. Anthony’s parish.
Kyle has left to mourn, his parents, Bill and Daria (McInnis) Johnston; his paternal grandmother, Neila Johnston; his aunts, Colette (Dave) Kemshead, Judy (Jack) Tutty and Connie McInnis; uncles, Danny (Paula) McInnis, Tommy (Sharon) McInnis, Read (Linda) Johnston and Kenny Johnston. He has left behind to mourn numerous cousins and many friends who fondly referred to him as ‘Moose’.
Kyle was predeceased by his maternal grandparents, Thomas ‘Son’ and Dorothy McInnis, paternal grandfather, Harold Johnston and his uncle, Wayne McInnis.
Visitation will be held Sunday from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. in the V.J. McGillivray Home, 16 Reserve St., Glace Bay. The funeral mass officiated by Rev. Norman MacPhee is Monday at 11 a.m. at St. Anthony’s Church with burial in St. Joseph’s Cemetery, Reserve Mines. Reception will be held at St. Anthony’s Church.
Donations in Kyle’s memory may be made to the Children’s Wish Foundation or a charity of your choice.
Kyle was a larger than life presence; always smiling and joking. Kyle you are gone but will never, ever be forgotten; we love you ‘pip’.
