MacDONALD, CLARENCE - Clarence Aulden “Cuddy” MacDonald at the age of 71 of Melmerby Beach passed away peacefully on July 7, 2012 at home surrounded by his family following a brief illness with cancer. Born in New Glasgow on July 5, 1941, he was a son of the late Absalom and Myrtle MacDonald. Raised in Thorburn, Cuddy spent 30+ years living in Saint John, NB before returning to reside at his summer residence at Melmerby Beach. He was employed by Anderson McTague & Associates for 35 years. He was highly respected in the Insurance industry and had many friends in the business. He was a member of Little Harbour Presbyterian Church, Linancy Golf Club, Stellar Curling Club, Pictou County Sports Hall of Fame (EPRH 1958 and 1959 Nova Scotia Provincial High School Hockey Champions) and also a Past President of New Glasgow Kinsmen Club. Cuddy spent many years refereeing both Minor and University Hockey. He enjoyed many winters in Florida where he made lifelong friends. Survived by his wife of 48 years Carole (Fraser); son, Darryl (Amy) of Saint John, NB; daughter, Shari (Jason) Livingston of Blue Mountain; Granddaughters Brittany, Sarah, Emily, Allison and Ashley. He was very proud of all his granddaughters sporting and academic achievements and loved to tell everyone he came into contact with. Also survived by sisters Sondra (Mike) Lank of New Glasgow, Grace (John) Maxwell of Bedford; brothers Ernest (Connie) of MacLennan’s Brook, Greg (Kim) of Miramichi, NB; sister-in-law Helen MacDonald of Grand-Falls/Windsor, NL; many nieces and nephews. Besides his parents, he was predeceased by brothers Ivor, Alastair and sister Maureen.
Visitation will be July 11, 2012 from 6 to 9 at HW Angus Funeral Home on 256 King Street, New Glasgow. Funeral Service will be held 2pm Thursday at the Little Harbour Presbyterian Church on Little Harbour Rd. with Rev. Joanne Vines presiding. Reception to follow in Church Hall. A private family committal service in Church Brook Cemetery at a later date. Family flowers only please. Donations in his memory may be made to Ivor MacDonald Memorial Rink or Palliative Care at Aberdeen Hospital.
