May (Nan) Isabel Fryers (nee Comfort)
On January 3, 2010, surrounded by family, our dear mother and grandmother, Nan Fryers, left on her new journey. She is predeceased by her husband Alfred Fryers, her brother Francis “Sam” Comfort and her sister Margaret “Babe” Handley. She is survived by her children; Clifford Fryers (Leslie), Wendy Mitton (Rod), Dennis Fryers (Pam); her brother Howard Comfort; her brothers-in-law Walter Fryers and Clifford Fryers (Marie); her grandchildren Ryan Mitton (Jessie), Tyler Mitton, Kyle Mitton, Gair Fryers, Caelie Fryers, Caitlin Fryers; many nieces and nephews. Nan was born to Effie and Edgar Comfort, June 8, 1916 on the family farm near Shellmouth, Manitoba. She graduated with her RN from the Winnipeg General in 1939. Her name, May I. Comfort, reflected the nature of her career and her life. She married Al Fryers in 1939. Life was full of friends, fun and family as she and Al moved throughout the prairies with Al’s career at CPR. In 1959, Nan and Al settled in Moose Jaw, raising her family, enjoying new friends and engaging in the community. Summers were spent at Cottage Castleavery near Ignace, Ontario, where the memories created gave root to the current family camp Stonemark. Nan moved to Calgary in 1994, enjoying her family, watching her grandchildren grow up and spending time at Stonemark. Her life was a gift to us all; her fierce loyalty and love to family and friends is her legacy. Our thanks to the staff of the Father Lacombe Nursing Home for the care, respect and dignity given to Nan. Cremation has occurred and a private memorial will be held.
