JOSEPHINE STANKEVICH

Lieu de naissance : Colombie Britannique, Canada

Lieu de décès : Colombie Britannique, Canada

JOSEPHINE (Jo) STANKEVICH January 4, 1921 - July 1, 2008 Jo passed away in the early dawn of July 1st, 2008, at the age of 87. She was the youngest of seven and the last surviving sibling born to Alex and Eva Crouse on the family farm near Macoun, Saskatchewan. Jo was a teenager, during the Great Depression, when she moved with her parents to Brighouse on Lulu Island, now known as Richmond. She married Joe Stankevich in 1941. Jo and Joe settled in Surrey, started their family and raised hogs for market. In 1959 they moved to the small farm in North Enderby and in 1967 she took a job as a dietary aid in the Enderby and District Memorial Hospital. Jo earned her Food Supervisor Diploma from the University of Guelph by correspondence in 1972. It was an exciting journey for this country girl to travel to Toronto to pick up her diploma. Joe died in 1981 and Jo retired from her position at the hospital a few years later. Jo continued to be active, growing a garden large enough to feed the masses, preserving everything it produced and learning to golf. In 1997 she downsized and relocated to Kamloops. She loved music, held a keen interest in the world's current affairs and made it appear easy to crochet. Jo's true passion, though, was her family. Whether it was a gathering for her famous roast beef supper or a camping trip, she loved the family banter. Jo will be greatly missed and fondly remembered by her children: Roger (Dale) of Ashcroft, Roy (Vicki) of Revelstoke, Joey (Kit) of Vernon, Evelyn Babij of Kamloops, Philip (Donna) of Sylvan Lake, AB and Wendy (Ray Zerebeski) of Kamloops. She will also be remembered by eight grandchildren and fifteen great grandchildren. A celebration of Jo's life will be held at 10:30 A.M. Friday, July 11, 2008 at Mount Paul United Church, 140 Laburnum Street, Kamloops, B.C. V2B 1G4. A gathering will be held at Cliffside Cemetery in Enderby at 3:00 P.M. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Mount Paul United Church
