It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Rita MacNeil age 86 of Glace Bay. Rita passed away at the Glace Bay Hospital on Saturday, July 14, 2012.
Born in Glace Bay Rita was the daughter of the late Alex and Katherine ‘Katie’ (Brown) MacNeil, Argyle Street, Glace Bay.
She was a member of St. Anne's Church, Glace Bay. Rita was also a former member of the Carmalite Society.
Rita will be sadly missed by her sons, Johnny (Regina), New York, Michael, Paul, Bernie (Kathy) - all of Glace Bay; brothers, Francis (Mary), Gussie (Bev), of Glace Bay; her brothers, affectionately referred to Rita as ‘Pete’. Also surviving is a daughter-in-law, Tanya MacNeil.
Besides her parents, she was predeceased by her husband, Roderick; sons, Jimmy ‘Sears’, little Roddie, Martin; brothers, Roddie Nicholas, Terrance, Joe, Ronald, Michael; sisters, Margaret, Lily, Mary and Theresa.
The family would like to extend a special thank you to the nurses on 3 East and in particular, Winna for her care and compassion for Rita during her hospital stay.
Visitation for Rita will be held Tuesday 2-4 & 7-9 p.m. in V.J. McGillivray Funeral Home, 16 Reserve St., Glace Bay. A funeral mass will be celebrated 2 p.m. on Wednesday at St. Anne's Church, Glace Bay with Fr. Leo Boone officiating. Interment will follow in the parish cemetery.
No flowers by family request.
