It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Shirley (Redmond), of Sydney, Nova Scotia. Shirley passed away Tuesday, Jan. 5, 2010, after a lengthy illness.
She grew up in Blackett’s Lake with her parents, the late Joseph and Sadie (Sarah Robinson) Redmond; brothers, Reggie, Jerry, Jackie and Jimmy and her surviving brother, Robert ‘Bill’ (Isabelle) Redmond, Ottawa and sister, Theresa Campbell, Red Islands.
It was there she developed the qualities for which she was so admired, her care of others, especially, children. Shirley’s love and concern for her family, friends and wanting the best for everyone left her door always open for a family member, friend or child. Her health challenges never affected her love and joy of seeing and total giving to old and new friends and the children she watched grow.
She was predeceased by her husband of 44 years, Cyril Sr. ‘Sid’ and only son, Cyril (Little) ‘Sid Jr.’, but is survived and greatly missed by her daughters, Karen, P.E.I. and son-in-law, Bob Ratushny, Alexis (Robert) Pertus and Theresa, Sydney; daughter at heart, Keri (O’Keefe) O’Brien, N.B.; and the sunshines of her life, her granddaughters, Ashley Pertus, Nfld., Allie Pertus, Sydney and Natascha Ratushny, P.E.I.
At Shirley’s request, there will be no visitation or flowers. A memorial service will take place on Monday, Jan. 11, 2009 at 2 p.m. at Sydney Memorial Chapel. Interment in Forest Haven Memorial Gardens.
Memorials may be made to Palliative Care or Cerebral Palsy of Cape Breton.
