Yvette Estelle Morriscey (Keenan)
Yvette Estelle (Keenan) Morriscey passed away peacefully on July 16, 2012, surrounded by her family. She was a beloved wife, sister, mother, grandmother and friend.
Yvette was born in Halifax to the late Eva (Vermette) and James Keenan. Yvette is survived by her loving sister, Sr. Marguerite Keenan and seven children, James (Elaine), Christina, Michele (Walsh), Margo (Paul Shouldice), Paula (Bill Smith), Kenneth (Maureen), Maureen (Tom Doane). She delighted in and was very proud of her sixteen grandchildren: Shannon and Matthew Morriscey; Martha, William and Rebecca Walsh; Michael, Emma and Bradley Shouldice; Jim, Dave and Katey Smith; Laura, Geoffrey and Lesley Doane; Bridget and Carol Morriscey; and two great-granddaughters Sophie and Victoria.
Yvette graduated from Mount Saint Vincent in 1942. While attending the Mount she made lifelong friends and continued to participate in alumni events for many years. Upon graduation she started her career in the public sector, which spanned several decades. Yvette was a long-time member of St. Thomas Aquinas and Canadian Martyrs parishes, where she served as lay minister and religious education teacher. Her faith was the overarching principle guiding her life and actions. Mom lived simply guided by the mantra "Love God and go Your way."
Mom loved children and believed that every child should experience love, kindness and happiness. Her many years of volunteer service at Phoenix House was just one expression of this. Mom was above all devoted to her family and seized every opportunity to spend time with them. She enjoyed bridge club and pursued art, having a wonderful sense of color and composition. Mom saw beauty all around and consistently viewed life with a positive focus. She lived life, savouring each moment. Her gentle and pleasant demeanor touched all she came in contact with, leaving the world a gentler place.
Yvette was predeceased by her loving husband William James.
The family wishes to thank the staff of Sullivan’s Lane, Parkstone Enhanced Care, for the loving care they gave to Mom.
Visitation will be held at J.A. Snow Funeral Home, 339 Lacewood Dr., Halifax, Thursday, July 19, 2-4 p.m. and 6-8 p.m. Funeral mass will be held at Canadian Martyrs Parish, 5700 Inglis Street, 10 a.m. Friday, July 20.
