MIMI BEATRICE (WHITCOMB) DEMPSEY On Monday, August 11, 2008 Mimi Dempsey passed away peacefully at the age of 97 years. Mimi is survived by her loving family, daughter June (Hubert) Janning of Darfield, BC, sons James (Sandy) and Jack (Lucille) both of Kamloops and Ed (Jeanne) of Prince George, BC; her fourteen grandchildren and twenty great grandchildren. Also left to cherish her memory is her sister in law Beryl Mensing and family of Erie, Pennsylvania, USA and numerous nephews and nieces. She was predeceased by her loving husband Samuel James on September 21, 1988. Mimi was born October 23, 1911 in Winnipeg, Manitoba. Sam and Mimi were married on December 7, 1929 in Kamloops. She was involved in the Canadian Daughters League, Baseball and Minor Hockey in Kamloops and the Kamloops International Bantam Tournament. In 1972, Mimi was presented with the 25 year service award for all her contributions to Minor Hockey. Mimi was also involved with the Brotherhood of Locomotive, Fireman and Engineers, and also a member of the Order of the Royal Purple. Her children, grand children and great grandchildren were most important to her, in her loving caring way. A Celebration of Mimi life will be held on Saturday, August 16, 2008 at 1:00 p.m. in the Schoening Funeral Chapel, 513 Seymour Street. The family wish to thank the staff for the care and support mother received over the years at Ponderosa Lodge, and later the Kamloops Seniors Village. A very special thank you to her close neighbours Bert and Terry Edgeworth.
