Helen Simpson (Smith) STEENSON December 19, 1920 - August 26, 2008 Helen passed away peacefully in her 87th year. Predeceased by her twin sisters, Mary Ariss Smith and Jean Lytton. Survived by children Tricia (Al Fedorak), Rob (Sue) of Kamloops, and Jamie of Surrey. Grandchildren: Heather (Tim Keeping), Kimberley and Mark Steenson in Abbotsford/Vancouver; Jaimie, Katie and Natalie Fedorak, and Daniel and Michael Steenson in Kamloops. Mom was raised in Kamloops until her 16th year, moved to New Westminster to finish High School, and then to Victoria where she met her future husband, Gordon Thomas Steenson. In 1950, Helen married Gordon and had many happy years as a wife and mom. Those were busy years, as Mom used to say, "Married 17 years and moved 18 times!" Mom loved people and new adventures, so this was definitely her style. Helen and Gordon started in Vancouver, then saw Kelowna, Port Alberni, Haney, Comox, Little River, and bounced between North and West Vancouver for several years. In her later years, Helen lived in Trail with Tricia and enjoyed working as a nanny for two very fortunate young families. In 1986, Mom made her last move back to Kamloops. There was a special joy in returning to her old neighbourhood: the 'Bank of Commerce' residence on Nicola Street where she was raised, with the 'Miss Beattie's School' and Stuart Wood School were just around the corner. Grandkids close by was (most days!) an added perk. Our family would like to thank Dr. Schumacher and the many caregivers who helped Mom in her final years at the Ponderosa Lodge and the Aberdeen Seniors' Village. No service by request. A memorial gathering will be held at a later date
