EDWIN HAROLD SWANSON 1918 ~ 2008 We sadly announce the passing of our loving husband and father Edwin Harold Swanson on August 24, 2008. Left to mourn are his loving wife Peggy; daughter Carol (Larry); sons Wayne (Carrie), Doug (Anna), and Murray; granddaughters Sarah and Jennifer; grandsons Chris, Dan, and Bryan; sister Nellie Strand; sister in-law Maureen Annas; and many nieces and nephews. Predeceased by his mother and father, daughter Marion, brothers Arvid, Robert and George, and sisters Mary, Clara and Edna. Ed was born on October 1st, 1918 in Speers, Saskatchewan. At the age of 18, he and his family moved to Winlaw, BC where he spent his growing up years. In 1941 he joined the Canadian Army and served in England, France, Belgium and Holland. Ed was with the troops who freed Holland in 1946. After his discharge he went to work for the Department of Highways in New Denver, where he stayed until 1952, when he married Peggy. He was then transferred to Quesnel where Carol was born. In 1954, Ed and family were transferred to Prince George to serve as Mechanical Foreman for the Department of Highways. It was in Prince George that Wayne, Doug, Marion and Murray were born. We enjoyed many good summers at our cabin on Francois Lake. In 1968, he was transferred again to Kamloops where he continued his work until his retirement. Ed enjoyed his fishing and spent many happy times at Shuswap Lake. He and Peggy also took some very nice winter holidays. He spent the last few months at Overlander Extended Care Hospital where he was very well cared for. We will miss you very much Ed. We would like to thank Dr. Barton at Royal Inalnd Hospital for her care and compassion for Ed and all the wonderful staff at Overlander for their kind and loving care. At Ed’s wish there will be no formal service but friends are invited to an Open House at Peggy’s home on Saturday, September 13, 2008 from 1:00 to 5:00 pm. Donations in Ed’s name may be made to the Alzheimer Society of BC, 20-601 West Cordova St., Vancouver, BC V6B 1G1 or to the Overlander Extended Care Hospital, 953 Southill St., Kamloops, BC V2B 7Z9, in lieu of flowers.
