Lower Barney’s River - George Logan Smith, 83, of Lower Barney's River, passed away in the Palliative Care Unit of Aberdeen Hospital on July 19, 2012. He was a retired fireman and engineer with CN Rail. George also farmed, fished, and cut pulp wood. He was predeceased by his parents Catherine and James Smith, Lower Barney's River; sister Dorothy, Syracuse, NY and Florida. Surviving is his sister Evelyn MacKay, New Glasgow, with whom he resided the past few years. He is also survived by nieces: Catherine MacKay and Susan MacKay, Halifax; Marion MacKay and Dorothy MacKay, Calgary; nephews: James MacKay, Ottawa; Alan MacKay, Edson, AB; four grand nephews: Peter Dimov, Logan Knoll, Devin MacInnis, all of Calgary; David MacAdam, Halifax; grand niece Casey Knoll, Calgary. A memorial service will be held Saturday, July 28, at 4 pm in Merigomish United Church with Reverend Meredith Fraser officiating. Reception to follow. Burial will be in Murray’s Point Cemetery.
