JOHANSEN Elizabeth Jean (Libby) Elizabeth Jean (Libby) Johansen went home to her Heavenly Father on September 10, 2008 at 12:04 p.m. She passed away at Royal Inland Hospital, Kamloops, following a short illness. Libby was born May 13, 1932 at Sydney Mines, Nova Scotia, the daughter of George and Irene Hay. She began her teaching career in Sydney Mines and subsequently held teaching positions at Florence, N.S., Victoria, Prince Rupert and Sointula, B.C., Watson Lake, YT, and Ashcroft. Libby was an accomplished pianist, a talented artist, and avid gardener. She attended Zion United Church, Ashcroft, where she played the piano and sang in the choir. She belonged to the B.C. Retired Teachers Assoc. and was active in the O.A.P. and the Ashcroft Arts Club. Her paintings were admired in the annual Ashcroft and District Art Show. In addition to music and painting, she enjoyed hobbies such as photography, quilting, participating in community activities, including drama productions and doing her daily crossword puzzle. She is lovingly missed by her sisters, Sheila Lindholm of Seattle, WA and Lillian MacKeigan of Sydney Mines, N.S. along with several nieces and nephews, and many dear friends in the community, including her faithful special friend, Jim Gyoba. Besides her parents, she is predeceased by her husband, Oscar Johansen, and her sister, Mary I. Hay. A memorial service will be held Friday, September 19, 2008 at 2:00 p.m. at Zion United Church, Ashcroft, with Rev. Dawne Taylor officiating.
