It is with deep sorrow that we announce the death of Alfred ‘Butch’ Simmons who passed away on Saturday, July 21, 2012 at the Cape Breton Regional Hospital, Sydney, with his loving wife, Kay and his family by his side.
Butch was born in Glace Bay to the late Effie Simmons and raised by his grandparents, George and Marcella Simmons. Butch was a member of the Hub Club for many years and he enjoyed coaching baseball, playing darts and dancing. He worked at Louisbourg and at #26 Colliery.
He is survived by his devoted wife, Kay Kelloway. Also survived by Mae Turner, Marcella Angelo, Delsie Simms and Fred Simmons, Sonny Simmons, Tommy Gaskell, Peter Gaskell, George Gaskell and a large extended family including numerous nieces and nephews.
He was predeceased by his beloved son, Alfred James ‘Butch Jr.’ Kelloway and also predeceased by Bill, Calvin and Warrick Simmons and Miriam Simmons. Cremation has taken place.
Visitation for Butch will take place today (Wednesday), July 25, 2012 from 6-9 p.m. at Patten Funeral Home, 71 Union St., Glace Bay. Funeral service will take place on Thursday at 11 a.m. in Patten Chapel with Lieuts. Josh and Joyce Downer officiating. Burial will follow at Greenwood Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the Diabetes Society or to a charity of choice.
