MARGARET IVORY MCKENNA ROWAND August 24, 1922 - November 25, 2008 The family of Ivory McKenna Rowand is saddened to report her passing in Royal Inland Hospital following a short illness. Beloved mother, grandmother, great grandmother, mother-in-law and friend. Ivory is survived by her daughters: Ivory (Jim) Warner, Beryl German, Kim (Bob) Corbett and Jo (Darryl) McKenna. She will be sorely missed by her grandchildren: Cora-Lee (Darrell) Wilkie, Lara (Ron) Wrabel, Dana (Dion) Warner, Cherilyn (Kevin) Le Blanc, Chris Corbett, Patrick (Sam) Corbett, Kile (Serene) McKenna, Rian McKenna, Liam Neil, Brady Albinet and Madee-Lynn Schmitt, as well as many extended family members throughout Canada. Ivory’s great grandchildren Branden Warner, Kennadee Wilkie, Travis Wrabel, Derek Wrabel, Kaelinn Wilkie and Reily Keough will miss her loving presence at their sports and dancing events. She treated everyone she met as members of her . The family of her second husband (Lloyd Rowand) will miss her cheery voice and faithful greeting cards. Also missing her deeply is her good friend and traveling companion, Al Husband and his family. Her many friends from her multitude of activities will miss her lively presence (Yahoo!). Predeceased by her parents Ruby and Chris Bell, siblings George Bell and Beryl Struth, first husband - Bill McKenna, second husband - Lloyd Rowand, daughter and son-in-law Mary and Maurice Le Blanc. Ivory was born in Killarney, Manitoba and spent her early years there. Following high school graduation she enrolled in the CWACs in 1942. There she met and married her first husband, Bill McKenna, also a soldier. After a number of moves they arrived in Kamloops in 1966, where she remained until the time of her death. She was employed for many years by the Kamloops School District as a library aide and as a support worker to visually impaired students. Always an active volunteer in the community, Ivory was named Kamloops Volunteer of the Year in the late nineties. It was through her volunteer work that she met her second husband, Lloyd, whom she married at age 80. She remained active and involved as a volunteer with the White Cane Club, CNIB, Hospice and Western Canada Theatre Company. She willingly offered assistance to anyone needing help, right up to the time of her illness. Never looking her age, Ivory square danced weekly, floor curled twice weekly, walked daily, and traveled extensively with her good friend Al. Her childhood nickname “Bubbles” summed up her effervescent personality and her enthusiasm for every activity. She retained her childlike wonder of nature and her eagerness to learn and try new things. She will be remembered with love and a deep sense of loss, especially when her special event cards, and early morning happy birthday singing are no longer received and/or heard. No doubt her beloved “little angels” have lifted her to a new and exciting phase of life. We love you Mom, Gram, GG, good friend. Your enthusiasm and gratitude for life will be with us all. “We’re so lucky”. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations in Ivory’s name may be made to the CNIB, Kamloops Hospice Society or the charity of your choice. On December 4, 2008 at 11:00 a.m. a celebration of Ivory’s life will be held at St. George's Anglican Church, where she was a long time, faithful member. The church is located at 308 Royal Avenue in North Kamloops.
