It is with deepest sadness that the family of Mary Dormiedy of Sydney Mines, announce her sudden passing in the early hours of Jan. 7, 2010, at the Northside General Hospital, surrounded by her loving family. God called her home.
Born in Sydney Mines, she was the daughter of the late John ‘Jack’ and Viola (Jessome) McGean.
Mary was a member of St. Pius X parish, Sydney Mines.
She enjoyed music, bingo, playing cards and her family.
She is survived by her loving husband of 54 years, Henry Dormiedy Sr.; daughters, Jeanne Marie (Gui) Marleau, Fort McMurray, Alta., Darlene (Dick) Dwyer, High Level, Alta., Donna (Calvin) Hatcher, Sydney Mines, Brenda (John) Fraser, Shenacadie, and Tracey (Randy) Bishop, North Sydney; her son, Henry Jr. (Mary Niesten), Millville; 13 grandchildren, Grant, Frankie, Tara, Crystal, Jennifer, Richard, Genna, Greg, Johnny, Lana, Kyle, Courtney and Jaiden; six great-grandchildren, Mikaila, Landen, Tyson, Hailey, Liam and Cole. Also surviving are her sisters, Shirley Devoe and Madonna (Art) Brown; brothers, Robert (Jean), Melvin, all of Sydney Mines, and Edward (Lillian), Groves Point; sisters-in-law, Eleanor, Jeannie and Cynthia McGean, Sydney Mines.
Besides her parents, she was predeceased by her sisters, Shirley in infancy, and Jean Merritt, brothers, Lawrence, Douglas and Gordon, brothers-in-law, Jerome Devoe and Jim Merritt, sister-in-law, Eunice McGean and her infant granddaughter, Jennifer Rosemary Dormiedy.
Mary was loved by all who knew her. She will be sadly missed by her family and friends, especially her best friend from birth, Edith Johnson.
Visitation today (Saturday), 7-9 p.m. and Sunday, 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. in Francis Funeral Home, Sydney Mines. Mass of Christian Burial will take place Monday, 10 a.m. in St. Pius X Church, Sydney Mines, with Fr. Thomas John officiating. Burial in St. Joseph Cemetery, Sydney Mines.
