Robert James Perry (RJ) 1925- 2009 The Perry family is saddened to announce the passing of their father, grandfather, brother, brother-in-law and uncle, Robert James Perry (Bob). Bob (R J) will be forever loved and missed by his family. His loving wife of 59 years, Alice (Smith), predeceased him in August 2006. He is survived by his son Bob Perry (Marion), daughters Janice Kypriotis, Judi Haines (Peter) son Michael Perry (Dina) and grandchildren Maki, David, Bob, Katherine and Emily. Bob is also survived by an incredibly close knit and supportive family including his beloved brothers and sisters on the "Perry" side and "Smith" side, as well as numerous nieces and nephews and their families. Bob was also predeceased by his mother and father Alfred and Jesse Perry. Bob was born in Balzac, Alberta on January 19, 1925. He moved to Kamloops with his family at a young age spending most of his life in the Kamloops area. Bob always considered Kamloops his home. As a young boy he delivered newspapers on his bike and in his late teens became a "wiper" for the C.P.R. He worked his way to engineer and retired in 1985 after 44 years of service. Dad was heavily involved throughout his career with the Brotherhood of Locomotive Engineers and Firemen. He was local chairman in both Kamloops and Cranbrook and eventually took the position of general chairman in Calgary. Bob was currently a member the CPR Pension Committee. Dad was a man that could move mountains. He was the Boy Scout District Commissioner for many years securing the Ruckle Point property on Shuswap Lake for $1.00. The camp was designated to be used by children and youth for generations to come. Dad's knowledge of the legal system and his compassion and advocacy for helping others has benefited a tremendous amount of people in our community. He was instrumental in creating the Dr. Green Seniors Home in Cranbrook and the Cottonwoods Seniors Housing project in Kamloops. Dad was always willing and eager to not only organize everyone but pitch in when the work needed to be done. Dad's commitment to any project was always met with determination, loyalty and the will to do what was right. In the eyes of his family, dad's greatest achievement was the devotion and commitment to his wife, and our mother, Alice, through her long battle with Alzheimer's disease. The family would like to thank dad's many supporters and friends including his close friend Alice Klim, Sue Thompson and in particular, his lifelong friend Karl Dalin . You are welcome to join us in honoring dad's life on Monday, March 9, 2009 at 1:00 p.m. at Kamloops United Church on 4th and St. Paul's Street, Kamloops. The family requests no flowers. If you wish, a donation may be made to the Alzheimer's Society of BC, the Boy Scouts of Canada or a charity of your choice in dad's memory.
