It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of our mother, grandmother, great-grandmother and aunt, Mary Margaret ‘Mamie’ Laidlaw. She died peacefully Saturday, Jan. 9, 2010, at the Northside General Hospital with family by her side.
Born in Sydney Mines, she was the daughter of the late Peter and Catherine Anne (MacDonald) MacInnis, and the last surviving member of her immediate family.
Mamie was a devout member of Immaculate Conception parish, Sydney Mines. She was a very kind and loving woman whose strength was admired by all who knew her. She enjoyed the fiddle, singing and dancing. Mamie loved good conversation with a hot cup of tea and always had advice for all of us.
Mamie is survived by her two sons and two daughters, Jim, Sydney Mines, Ernie (Anna), Halifax, Lillian (Bill) Jesty, Bowmanville, Ont., and Vivian Jessome (Dave), Windsor, N.S. Mamie was a loving influence to her nine grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren, and was a special aunt to all her nieces and nephews.
She was predeceased by her husband, Ernie Laidlaw in 1984, sister, Nan Rogers, grandchild, Terry Laidlaw and daughter-in-law, Sheila Laidlaw.
There will be no visitation. Cremation has taken place under the care and direction of Francis Funeral Home, Sydney Mines. Mass of Christian Burial will take place Wednesday, Jan. 13 at 11 a.m. in Immaculate Conception Church, Sydney Mines, with Fr. J.J. MacDonald officiating. Burial will be held at a later date.
