Died Dec. 23, 2009, in Harbourstone Enhanced Care, Sydney, after a lengthy illness.
Hazel was born at Low Point, Cape Breton County, and was the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Cliff and Cassie MacGillivary.
Early in her life, she moved to Whitney Pier to the home of Mr. and Mrs. Duncan Petrie.
She attended Holy Redeemer School and Holy Angels High School.
Hazel worked in both Buffalo, N.Y., and Toronto, Ont., before returning to Sydney. During the 60s and 70s, she was the successful operator of Hazel’s Beauty Salon, until her retirement.
Visitation will take place from 7- 9 p.m., Thursday, Jan. 14 at Sydney Memorial Chapel. Funeral service will be held 11 a.m., Friday, Jan. 15 at St. Anthony Daniel Church. Interment in Resurrection Cemetery.
