ZWAKENBERG, Catharina (Rene) It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Rene, due to the ravages of Alzheimer's disease on Aug. 16, 2009. The long journey is finally over. Rene is pre-deceased by her parents, brother Joe Willems and infant daughter Marijaneke. Rene is survived by husband Herman, daughter Ineke (John) Smith, son Hans (Kim Gray) Zwakenberg. Also left to mourn her passing are grandchildren Sarah (Gary) Lacroix, Bradley (Lisa) Smith. Adam & Emily Zwakenberg, great-grandchildren Mikaela & Andrew Barton. Rene & Herman immigrated to Canada in 1952 from Holland. They settled in Kamloops. The Canadian way and English was very quickly learned. Mom established a very successful home business doing invisible mending. Later she entered the retail field working for Joyce's Ladies Wear in Kamloops. She loved gardening, playing badminton & tennis. The family at this time wishes to thank Ponderosa Lodge in Kamloops and Delta View in Delta for all the loving care they gave her. We would also like to thank Mary, Rose & Ron, Judd, Shirley, Irene, Billie and many friends who gave support during Mom's illness in Kamloops. Ineke would also like to thank Jeannie Kanakos, Val Roddick and past Minister of Health, the Hon. George Abbott who all worked to facilitate a speedy transfer from Kamloops to Vancouver, it was appreciated. A quiet family service was held
