SMITH Garth Thomas “GT” Smith of Kamloops, BC passed away Thursday, July 9, 2009 after a blessedly brief battle with leukemia. Beloved father, grandfather, friend and companion, Garth was born January 26, 1945 to Leonard and Edna Smith in Moose Jaw, Saskatchewan. During his 34 years with the CPR in Moose Jaw and Kamloops, he held positions in the shop, the yard and on the road. Garth was very active and enjoyed slo-pitch, badminton, golf and cycling for all his adult life. Through his work and his various activities, he formed many lasting friendships. Besides his role in raising three great kids, his favourite memories include not one, but two holes-in-one at MacArthur Island Golf Course, and a poorly-planned night spent under a Fijian coconut tree. Surviving are his dear partner Joanne, Kamloops; son Michael (Alison) of Helensburgh, Australia; daughter Terry (Terry) of Victoria, BC; and daughter Jocelle of Penticton, BC. He is also survived by his grandchildren, Kristin, Meryck, Alaina, Holly and Charlotte, and his first wife Gail. Also siblings Lilian (Hank), Joe (Margret) and nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his parents, Edna and Len and by young grandson Lucas. All Garth’s friends are invited to a celebration of his life at North Kamloops Anavets Friday, July 17 between 5:00 and 9:00 p.m. I In lieu of flowers, please consider a donation to the Canadian Cancer Society (www.cancer.ca) or a charity of your choice.
