(May 7, 1920 - January 8, 2010). Passed peacefully away at Carbonear General Hospital on Friday, January 8, 2010, Mr. Raymond Frederick Hiscock, aged 89 years, of Port de Grave. Mr. Hiscock went to the Labrador as an eleven year old young boy to work with his father in the fisheries. During these years it was there that he met his wife of sixty nine years, Violet (nee Burden) of George’s Cove, Labrador. They married in Labrador, where he now commenced in the fishing industry as a merchant in the Labrador fishing industry. Raymond and Violet resided in Port Hope Simpson, where they raised their seven children. After retirement they moved to Newfoundland and resided in Port de Grave. During later years, they moved to the Pentecostal Cottages and then to the Pentecostal Senior Citizens Home, in Clarke’s Beach. In his eightieth year, Raymond wrote and published, Memoirs of a Labrador Fisherman. Predeceased by his parents Henry and Mary Hiscock; daughter Sharon; grandchildren: Michael and Vanessa; brother Harry (Beatrice); half-brothers: Harold (Susan), Cecil (Mary), William (Olive); half-sisters: Edith (Russell), Dorcas (Wareham); daughter-in-law Zonya. Leaving to mourn his devoted and loving wife Violet; three sons: Frederick (Cathy), Albert (Irene), Bruce (Irene); four daughters: Minnie (Maynard) King, Beverly (Richard) Sloos, Harriett Hiscock, Marilyn (John) Murray; a large number of grandchildren and great-grandchildren; two sisters: Harriett (Hunter) Dearing, Ida (Roy) Clarke; one brother Harris (Karen); and a large circle of other relatives and friends. Rested at The Pentecostal Tabernacle, Port de Grave. Visitation took place on Saturday 7 p.m. - 9 p.m.; Sunday 2 p.m. - 4 p.m., 7 p.m. - 9 p.m.; Monday 10 a.m. - 11 a.m. Funeral service took place on Monday, January 11, 2010 at 2 p.m. from The Pentecostal Tabernacle, Port de Grave. Interment in the Pentecostal Cemetery, Port de Grave. Flowers gratefully accepted or donations may be made to the Gideons Society. Funeral arrangements entrusted to Moore’s Funeral Home, Clarke's Beach.
