
Harry Alfred Chase
Chase: Harry Alfred, 83, of Truro, passed away Tuesday, August 14, 2012 at the QE ll Halifax Infirmary. Born in Truro he was a son of the late Ernest and Helen (Dunnette) Chase. Harry was the former owner and operator of Suckling and Chase Florists Ltd. in Truro for many years. He was former Fire Chief of both the Truro and Great Village Fire Departments. Harry helped teach at the Nova Scotia Fire School in Waverly. He was a member and former warden of St. Johns the Evangelist Anglican Church Truro and an Associate Member of the Royal Canadian Legion Branch No. 26 Truro. Harry is survived by his wife the former Phyllis Johnson; children, Janice Pearson and her children Kristin (Steve Delaney), Truro; Lee, Calgary; Edwin James, Tusket; Sandy (Kandi), Mirimachi, NB; Darren Paul and his children, Zackery and Caelyne, Yarmouth, Eric, St. John’s, NFLD and Keith, Calgary, AB; Deanna and her son, Francis, Halifax; Patrick (Uta) and their children, Hannah and Seamus, Berwick; brother, Harold (Pat), Ontario; several nieces and nephews. Harry was predeceased by his first wife the former Shirley Redmond; brother, Sidney; sister, Louise McCurdy. A firefighter’s tribute service conducted by the Truro and Great Village Fire Brigades will be held at 6:45pm today, August 16, followed by visitation from 7-9pm all in the Mattatall ~ Varner Funeral Home, 55 Young Street Truro. Funeral service will be held 2pm Friday, August 17, in St. John the Evangelist Anglican Church Truro with the Rev. Lori Ramsey officiating. Interment will follow in the Terrace Hill Cemetery in Truro. A reception will then be held at the Mattatall ~ Varner Funeral Home. If desired memorial gifts in Harry’s memory may be made to the Victorian Order of Nurses or to the Nova Scotia Lung Association.
