RAYMOND GRAY 1923 - 2009 With sadness and yet great peace, the family of Raymond David Gray would like to announce his passing, on June 25th, a week shy of his 86th birthday. Ray went to meet his beloved wife Maureen, who had predeceased him almost 5 years before. He slipped away peacefully with both his children at his side. Ray is survived by his son Dave (wife Luke) and daughter Marilyn, his sisters Eleanor, Maggie and Mary, together with 13 grandchildren and 19 great grandchildren. Besides his wife, he went on to meet other family members who had gone ahead of him, including his brothers Tom and Jack, sisters Ethel and Irene; brothers-in-law Doug, Wally, Sam and Vic; sister-in-law Winnie; and son-in-law Hank Lange. Ray was born on July 2, 1923 in Glasgow, Scotland. At the ender age of 3, he journeyed with his family by ship to the original Mayook Settlement near Cranbrook, BC. He later returned to Europe as a Member of the Canadian Armed Forces, stationed in Digby during World War II. He met the love of his life at a dance in England and brought her back as a war bride. To support his new family, Ray chose to return to work on the railroad, and eventually relocated them to Kamloops, BC, where he worked as a train engineer until his retirement at 62 years of age. He lived out the rest of his days in Kamloops, gardening and fishing for as long as he could. We will miss his humour and his great love for all of his family. A celebration of Ray's life will be held on Tuesday, June 30th at 2:00 p.m. at Kamloops Funeral Home. Donations can be made in lieu of flowers to the BC Heart and Stroke Foundation or the SPCA.
