Isabella 'Bella' Morrison
With saddened hearts we regret to announce the passing of our mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, aunt and friend. Isabella peacefully passed away Friday morning, Aug. 17, 2012, at the Glace Bay Hospital with her loving family by her side.
Born in Sydney Mines, Feb. 7, 1919, she was the daughter of the late Peter and Annie (Kay) Steele.
Isabella was a former longtime resident of Maple Avenue, Glace Bay and for the past five years she was an active resident in the veteran’s wing at Taigh-na-mara, where she was affectionately referred to as ‘Bella’. In her earlier years she was an avid swimmer and skater. She also enjoyed spending her summer months picking blueberries. A veteran of Second World War, attaining the rank of sergeant; finishing her tour of duty in Halifax at the infirmary from 1940 to 1943. She also had a longtime involvement with the Royal Canadian Legion, Branch #3, Glace Bay. Bella will mainly be remembered by her family as great provider for her husband and children; dedicating her last 50 years to the love and care of her son, Timmy Morrison.
She will be sadly missed by her sons, Ted (Mary), Glace Bay, Gilbert (Rita), B.C., Tom, Milford, N.S., Timothy, Glace Bay; daughter, Anne (Ty) Watts, Ont.; numerous grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
Besides her parents, Isabella was also predeceased by her husband, Frank; son, Bobby; grandson, Danny; granddaughter, Shannon Ferguson; sisters, Liz Dearing, Ethel Whitewood, Lee Kressner, Viola Steele; brothers, Woody and John Steele.
Visitation for Isabella will be held Sunday, August 19, 2012 from 2-4 & 7-9 p.m. in V.J. McGillivray Funeral Home, 16 Reserve St., Glace Bay. A funeral mass will be celebrated at 2 p.m. on Monday, Aug. 20, 2012 in St. Anne’s Church, Glace Bay with Fr. Leo Boone officiating. Interment will be in Greenwood Cemetery, Glace Bay. A luncheon will follow in the church foyer.
Family flowers only, memorial donations in Isabella’s memory may be made to the Glace Bay Food Bank or a charity of ones choice.
